F1 Wizard Inside Track
On Friday players can review telemetry during both timed practices and play it back, to get a picture about sector times, lap times, the weather forecast. The first timed practice is a bit of a free for-but individual sector times are important indicators. The second practice on Friday afternoon is key. Cars will also run series of laps and will pit in the middle, so here we get an idea of the pit times—how much time it ‘costs’ to pit the car. Different tracks have different pit times.
The player can assess all this information to try to figure out what the teams will do and what they would do if they were ‘theMajorDomo’. The teams NEVER reveal their true strategies—an they are not beyond faking and misleading the press and spectators. Strategies win or lose races.
There are two sessions on Saturday. Teams have worked overnight on strategy and setup. During the first session player get an accurate picture of sector times and lap times. Also get a good picture about tire strategies (based on lap times with the various compounds).
Saturday afternoon bring a one hour qualifying session. It is split into three sections (called Q1, Q2 and Q3) where drivers must place in the top 15(Q1) and 10(Q2) in order to advance. Qualification placement determines grid order.
The player can now use the telemetry and the charts to formulate a set of strategies for the cars (of ‘interest’) and try to predict how the race unfolds… when the pit stops would happen, the outcomes.
There is only one thing happening on Sunday – the race. The grid has been decided, the cars have committed to tires for the first stint. (during the days of refueling, the fuel loads have been determined. For 2010, all race fuel will be onboard). Players can now see if their strategies are on target or if they need to adjust them. But you can adjust your strategies and see the results.
